Of course, my parents took me to church as soon as I was
able to breath air; but I really didn't understand or appreciate my
faith until my 8th birthday when I was called to my first act of dedicated
service -- I was chosen to be an alter server.
The following ten years of my life were an incredibly
faith-filled experience. Apart from virtually memorizing the Mass,
I was able to get to know many interesting people. Including,
on many occasions, different Archbishops from all over the world.
You know, I cannot decide which was my first love, mathematics or music.
But I tell you, now both rule my life (and sometimes they "compete"
with each other for my primary attention). Upon further thought,
however, I would have to say that I do tend to be partial to the musical
aspect of my life since it is what allows me to be closer to my Lord
and to my inner self and helps me to reveal my Lord and myself to others.
Quite frankly I think that loving both music and
math has let each compliment the other and has let me use more of my
brain so to speak -- left brain and right brain and all that jazz.
Without spurting out my resume, let me just say that
my background in music has been adventurous to say the least.
I couldn't ever imagine meeting the people I've met and seeing the places
I've seen if I hadn't been a musician. Once again, and above all,
my music allows me to recognize and express my closeness to God.
